Since 2006 I've been writing digital entries in this online journal and illustrating them with
photographs. I create them mostly for myself; through both the process and the product of
journaling I get to remember and savor experiences, primarily from the natural world, in a way
that I otherwise cannot. It is also true that I enjoy having an audience, however small, and
I enjoy playing with HTML and Vbscript, so I put my stuff on the web. I don't have any great
insights to share but you might enjoy the pictures.
Since 2017 my wife Darchelle has taken all of the photos. That was when my ALS had progressed to
the point that I could no longer use any camera, not even a phone. I first noticed weakness in my
shoulders in 2013. In 2016 I ran my last marathon. In 2019 I hiked my last mountain. Since 2020
I've been in a wheelchair, but birding is an activity Darchelle and I can still share. My focus in
these pages reflects that.
